China/US literacy

Highlights of the conference was meeting teachers and university faculty. Discussion centered on the learning styles, motivation, curriculum, instruction and classroom organization for teaching English literacy. Technology was introduced as a multisensory approach and a learning management system. I hope the Chinese educators learned new strategies for teaching. The Americans certainly learned the Chinese approaches to motivation and enjoyment of learning. This blog can be an exchange of ideas as we reflect on the conference and on the implementation of the strategies.

Welcome

I am in Beijing attending the first annual China-US Literacy conference. The first day was long and intensive with many presenters from University of Missouri, Purdue University and Beijing Normal University. Each one has stressed the importance of literacy for communicating, thinking, learning, expression, and life long learning. Several strategies were introduced for motivating students to learn, including active learning, creativity with singing and dance, cooperative learning, drawing, reading literature, and practice in natural context.

This blog will provide more opportunity for literacy. I'm inviting my new Chinese friends to share their ideas, thoughts, and questions about teaching literacy - which includes English language learning. This will be a way we can continue to share ideas. I will ask American teachers, who are my students in graduate school in New York, to join our blog and share ideas with you.
